TOURISM PUBLIC LECTURE – ADVANCING RURAL AND COMMUNITY CENTRIC TOURISM

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Fish Mahlalela will host a Public Lecture on the significance of rural and community-centric tourism in driving sector recovery and transformation.
Themed ‘Rethinking Tourism: Opportunities Await in Rural and Community-Centric Tourism,’ the public lecture will bring together academia and sector stakeholders to engage and exchange ideas on how to enhance policy and strategies to promote the development of rural economies to enable sustainable and inclusive tourism.

- Professor Urmilla Bob – Dean of Research – University of KwaZulu-Natal
- Julia Giddy – Research Associate – School of Tourism & Hospitality, University of Johannesburg
- Jacqui Taylor – MD of Rural Tourism Africa and CEO of Agritourism Africa
- Lorren Haywood – Senior researcher at CSIR on strategic environmental management
- Professor Anshu Padayachee – CEO: Technological Higher Education Network South Africa (THENSA)
- Chris Phili – Chairperson of Claremont-Kwadabeka Community Tourism (CTO)
- Ms Zoliswa Mtinini Tuswa – Owner and Manager: Kwanda Voluntourism
The Public Lecture is hosted in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (KZN DEDTEA), Tourism KwaZulu-Natal (TKZN) and University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).
